Founded in 1986 as Austin's first professional opera company, Austin Lyric Opera has rapidly grown to become a major cultural asset for the Central Texas region. The company's productions fuse major international artists, directors and designers with the best rising young American talent to produce opera that has won international acclaim.

Austin Lyric Opera is a dynamic company supported by an exemplary Board of Trustees, an active Guild of 300+ members and a dedicated staff. The Armstrong Community Music School of Austin Lyric Opera is the first community music school ever to be inaugurated by an opera company. Internationally renowned conductor Maestro Richard Buckley serves as Artistic Director.
