Founded in 1976, the Dallas Black Dance Theatre is a modern dance company with a mixed repertory of modern, jazz, African and spiritual works. DBDT employs twelve professional dancers on an eleven-month contract, and six full-time administrative staff members. Now in its 28th season, DBDT is Dallas ’ oldest continuously operating dance company. Ann Williams founded DBDT to provide dance opportunities for minorities. Today, DBDT offers those opportunities to everyone.

The company has studied, trained and performed with some of the pre-eminent performers and teachers in America including Alvin Ailey, Elisa Monte, David Parsons, Robert Battle, Chuck Davis, Talley Beatty, Donald Byrd, Donald McKayle, Jessica Lang, Alonzo King, Milton Myers, Christopher Huggins, Cleo Parker Robinson, Hope Clarke, and others.
